Violet Bank House is located in the centre of Currie, on Lanark Road West (the A70) at the Junction with KirkGate and positioned on a corner directly opposite the Hope Scott Garage.

BY CAR

Note: Some GPS systems will take you to Lanark Road and not Lanark Road West. Lanark Road is the main A70 from Edinburgh and at some 4 miles West of the city centre, changes to become Lanark Road West. From Edinburgh International Airport ***If coming by taxi, ensure that the driver brings you via the Heriot-Watt University, this is the shortest route. Total distance 6.25 miles.

Leave the Airport parking and in 1 mile join the main road (A8). Follow the Edinburgh sign. In 1.25 miles, at the first roundabout, take the City Bypass South A720 and then, in 0.25 mile, take the first turnoff signed A71 Kilmarnock and West Calder. Stay in the left hand lane to take a second exit off this again for the A71. Bypass traffic will merge with you coming from your right, continue forward uphill to the CALDER JUNCTION. Take the third exit (to the right) and follow Heriot Watt University sign. In 2-300 yds. Follow white sign A70 Currie. Follow A70 Currie through roundabout at Heriot-Watt University. In approx. 1 mile after 30mph speed sign straight through roundabout, follow Riccarton Mains Road uphill to T junction – Lanark Road West. Turn left. Violet Bank House on your right in 100yds, on the corner of Kirkgate and Lanark Road West. We are directly opposite the Hope Scott Garage. Driveway is on the Kirkgate. Travel time 10 – 15 minutes.

Note: If you should miss the turnoff from the City Bypass, continue to the next available exit, and turn back onto the Bypass. Keep going until you reach the Calder Junction then exit first left for A71 Kilmarnock.

From Glasgow International Airport

Follow signs for Glasgow which joins the M8. Continue on M8 through Glasgow and follow M8 EDINBURGH until end of the M8 at the Hermiston Gate roundabout. Take second left-hand lane signed (A71) Kilmarnock, City Bypass South. Stay in lane signed (A71) Kilmarnock.

Exit A71 follow Kilmarnock to roundabout over bypass – CALDER JUNCTION. Follow directions as above from Calder Junction Travel time will be approximately 1hr.

From Glasgow Prestwick Airport

Follow the A77 / M77 route signposted GLASGOW, then follow the M8 signposted EDINBURGH. Follow directions as above from Hermiston Gate roundabout. Travel time approximately 1 hr. 30 mins. From M6 / M74 via A702 from Abington Take the M6 to Carlisle which becomes the M74 for Glasgow. Leave the motorway at Junction 13, Abington, signposted A702 for Edinburgh. Follow A702 to the Edinburgh City Bypass - A720. Take the route North and Forth Road Bridge. Exit at the CALDER JUNCTION for A71 Kilmarnock, the first left exit. Follow directions as above after Calder Junction From the A1, A68 and A7 Join the City Bypass A720 and follow the signs for A71 Kilmarnock and Edinburgh Airport. Leave the bypass at CALDER JUNCTION A71 Kilmarnock, first exit to the left and follow Heriot Watt University sign. Follow directions as above from Calder Junction From Forth Road Bridge, and Stirling area: Follow signs for City Bypass and Edinburgh, then City Bypass (720). Then follow sign for Edinburgh M9 (M8) Glasgow. Then follow City Bypass sign. Ignore City Bypass North sign, keep straight on. At City Bypass, Hermiston Gate roundabout, take second left lane signed (A71) Kilmarnock, City Bypass South. Stay in lane signed (A71) Kilmarnock. Exit A71 follow Kilmarnock to roundabout over bypass – CALDER JUNCTION. Follow signs as above from Edinburgh Airport.

BY TRAIN OR BUS

From Waverley Train Station, Take the 44 bus, marked BALERNO, on the gardens side of Princes Street. From St Andrews Square Bus Station Exit the Bus Station onto St. Andrews Square, walk towards Princes Street, staying on the same side of the road and the bus stop is in 200 yards. Same bus as above.

From Haymarket Train Station. Exit the station and turn right onto Dalry Road, cross the road and the bus stop is within 100 yards. Same bus as above. The bus ride will be around 25 – 30 minutes except in rush hour!!. From Princes St you will pass, Caledonian Hotel, Haymarket Station area, Ardmillan Terrace, Caledonian Brewery and ASDA to your right, the Dell Inn (pub) Cross Keys (pub) and Tanners (pub) to your left. After Tanners the road crosses over (above) the city bypass, in the Juniper Green area. You pass through Juniper Green village, past the, Royal Bank , Juniper Green Inn and Iceland all on your right. In about 1 mile you will see more shops on the right hand side including a Threshers Wine Shop.

GET OFF NOW at the stop called Easter Currie. Violet Bank House is last house on your left, directly opposite Hope Scott Garage. Violet Bank is the house on the corner. If you miss the Easter Currie stop you will get off at the Currie Toll stop which is opposite the Riccarton Arms pub. (A large white building on the right) You will be able to see both Hope Scott and Violet Bank from this stop, a 100 yard walk back.
